Chart a clearercourse.

Clarity for the problem. Leadership for the project. A solution your team can actually run.

Important project stuck? Systems scattered? Too many moving parts and nobody clearly owning the problem? I’m Aaron Salvato. Through Helmsman, I steer complicated website and systems projects for churches, nonprofits and businesses: figuring out what needs to change, building a practical plan and leading the work through launch.

The Great Digital Tangle: a vintage red book cover showing an overwhelmed team juggling files, scattered systems, and a troublesome laptop.

Your team has enough
on its plate.

  • The website has been patched for years.
  • Important content lives in three places.
  • Staff keep copying information between systems.
  • Everyone knows something needs to change, but nobody has time to untangle it while doing their actual job.

That’s where I come in.

I help figure out what the project really is, make the important decisions clear, and take responsibility for moving it from a pile of competing needs to something your team can actually use.

BUILT FOR PROJECTS WITH MOVING PARTS

A website your organization has outgrown. Years of content people struggle to find. Publishing and staff workflows held together by workarounds. These are the projects I help untangle, from the first decisions to a system your team can use.

WHAT I BRING TO YOUR PROJECT

What can I actually take
off your plate?

A complicated digital project rarely stays in one lane.

It may need strategy, design, development, content decisions, vendor coordination, or someone to keep five people from waiting on each other.

I stay with the work across those boundaries.

I bring in specialists when the project needs them, but you still have one person at the helm responsible for keeping the whole thing pointed in the same direction.

01

Figure out what to do

I investigate the problem, talk with the people affected, review the systems involved, and turn ambiguity into priorities, options, risks, and a practical roadmap.

02

Lead the project

When an important initiative has too many moving parts and nobody clearly at the helm, I can own the coordination: decisions, stakeholders, vendors, timelines, documentation, and follow-through.

Build the right solution

Once the direction is clear, I can execute it too: websites, content platforms, custom tools, connected workflows, migrations, and other purpose-built systems.

SELECTED WORK / 01

CalvaryChapel.com

Moving an archive / helping a team publish

THE PROBLEM

1,400+ articles.
No clean way forward.

More than 1,400 articles were tied to an old publishing system with no straightforward way to move them. Readers struggled to find relevant resources, and a team of contributing writers needed a clearer publishing process.

  • An archive that was difficult to move
  • Resources that were hard to find
  • Many writers, one publication

THE RESULTYears of articles preserved, organized, and accessible to readers.

WHAT CHANGED FOR THE CLIENT

Readers could find the archive. Staff could manage it.

More than 1,400 articles moved into a browsable archive organized by subject and author. The editorial team gained a shared submission and publishing workflow, while staff could maintain the church directory through a no-code backend.

I led this project. AJ Caldwell developed the church finder.

Jesus Famous

Making years of teaching easier to find

THE PROBLEM

1,600+ posts.
Too much teaching buried.

A growing Squarespace archive held more than 1,600 posts, but long scrolling pages made the depth difficult to explore. The platform needed structure that could grow with the ministry.

  • A growing Squarespace archive
  • Long pages, limited discovery
  • More content arriving every week

THE RESULTNew teaching appeared automatically. Older teaching became easy to find.

Read the case study

WHAT CHANGED FOR THE CLIENT

More teaching to explore. Fewer manual updates.

Readers gained a way into articles, teaching series, books, and related resources. New podcast episodes and sermon videos flowed into the media library automatically, so staff no longer had to add each release by hand.

I led strategy, design, migration, and media architecture for Nate Holdridge.

SELECTED WORK / 03

Calvary Global Network

From a landing page to a digital ecosystem

THE PROBLEM

A global mission.
A bare-bones landing page.

CGN’s starting point was a simple landing page linking to other services, without a developed brand identity or a website that communicated the depth of its mission. The nonprofit needed a flagship presence and a foundation for its growing ministries, resources, and initiatives.

  • A minimal landing page
  • No developed brand identity
  • A growing network to equip

THE RESULTA bare-bones web presence became a branded ecosystem serving pastors, churches, and ministry teams.

Read the case study

WHAT CHANGED FOR THE CLIENT

A flagship website. An ecosystem of 10+ sites.

Over several years, I developed CGN’s brand and messaging, built its flagship nonprofit website, and created 10+ websites across the wider ecosystem. Pastors and leaders gained a direct route to ministry initiatives, education, and resources. Staff gained tools to publish events and mobilize relief support.

I led this work, building 10+ websites across the wider ecosystem with CGN’s leadership and ministry teams.

How I lead.

01

Start with the team.

I help teams define the problem, constraints, decision-makers, and what success actually means to them.

02

Chart the course.

I set direction, scope, responsibilities, and tradeoffs before the build hardens around bad assumptions. A good plan makes all the difference.

03

Build the right solution.

I get to work building what your team needs to succeed. I work hard to keep vendors, stakeholders, and execution pointed at the same outcome.

04

Equip the team.

We launch the solution, train the people responsible for it, document what matters, and make ownership clear.

No disappearing
into a black box.

You’ll know what we’re solving, what decisions need to be made, who owns what, and what happens next.

I keep the project moving, but your team stays close enough to shape the decisions that affect them.

By launch, nobody should be staring at a mysterious new system wondering who knows how the thing works.

A clear plan before you commit to the build.

Work with me to decide what your project needs, what comes first and what it could take to deliver. You leave with a written plan your team can use, whoever builds it.

  • Clear priorities. What the project needs to achieve, what matters first and what can wait.
  • A recommended direction. The options, tradeoffs and reasons behind the recommendation.
  • A practical next phase. Suggested phases, responsibilities and estimated budget and timing ranges.

MEET YOUR PARTNER

A partner who knows
the work firsthand.

I’m Aaron Salvato, a pastor and digital strategist. For more than 20 years I’ve built the websites, publishing systems, and editorial teams that ministries run on.

That includes ecosystem-scale work for Calvary Global Network and CalvaryChapel.com, the GoodLion Podcast Network, and content-heavy projects for ministries like Jesus Famous and Ed Taylor.

I’ve also spent enough time inside organizations to know the technical problem is rarely the whole problem.

There are leaders with different priorities, old systems nobody wants to touch, staff often working in silos, limited budgets, and people who still have to do their actual jobs while the project is happening.

That’s why I work directly with the people who will live with what we build.

I can translate between leadership, creative teams, developers, and the person who will eventually get the email saying, “Hey, can you update this?”

You work directly with me from strategy through delivery. I’m hands-on, and I stay responsible for the direction, quality and handoff.

Away from the screen, I lead GoodLion’s School of Discipleship and teach theology to young adults. I read comic books and play old Super Nintendo games with my son. And my favorite roles are husband to Brooklynn and dad to Jack and Ellie. They’re the reason behind all of this.

What leaders
usually ask first.

What kinds of organizations do you work with?

All kinds: churches and ministries, nonprofits, businesses, tech startups and growing teams. Much of my deepest work has been with ministries like CalvaryChapel.com, the Calvary Global Network and Reliance Church, but the problems look the same everywhere: an outgrown website, scattered content and systems nobody clearly owns. I’m based in Oklahoma City and work with teams across the U.S. See the work ↗

Can you redesign our church website?

Yes. For Reliance Church, I rebuilt the site around a newcomer’s first questions: service times, location and next steps up front, a consistent page for each of 15+ ministries, and events that flow in from Church Center. Find out more ↗

Do you offer smaller projects, like a website refresh?

Yes. If your words and photos are solid but the site looks dated or struggles on phones, I can give your key pages a clear, modern presentation without turning it into a bigger project. Find out more ↗

Can you move years of content off an old platform without losing it?

Yes. It’s some of my most proven work. I moved 1,400+ articles off SilverStripe for CalvaryChapel.com and 1,600+ posts out of a 1,907-post Squarespace archive for Jesus Famous. Every piece is mapped, moved and checked, then organized so people can actually find it. Find out more ↗

We have years of sermons, articles and books. Can you make them easier to explore?

Yes. For Jesus Famous and Ed Taylor, I turned long, date-sorted archives into libraries people can browse by theme, series, book and format, with new teaching flowing in automatically. Find out more ↗

Can you build a home for our podcasts?

Yes. I built the GoodLion Podcast Network: 40+ shows serving more than 1,000 churches, each with its own page, and every new episode appears on the site automatically from the show’s feed. Find out more ↗

We’ve outgrown a single website. Can you help with the bigger picture?

Yes. At the Calvary Global Network, I built a flagship site and 10+ connected websites, each with its own purpose and all clearly part of one family. Find out more ↗

Can our website pull from the tools we already use?

Usually, yes. Reliance Church’s events flow in from Church Center, so staff enter them once. GoodLion’s podcasts publish automatically from each show’s feed. The goal is less copying and checking, not another dashboard to manage. Find out more ↗

Can you help our team stop chasing work through email and spreadsheets?

Yes. I design shared workspaces that show who owns what, what’s next and what’s waiting for approval. At CalvaryChapel.com, that meant an editorial workflow for 15–20 writers. Find out more ↗

We’re launching something new. Can you help us get started?

Yes. For a new church, ministry or venture, I help shape the message, the visual identity and a first website, so people understand what you’re building and how to join in. Find out more ↗

Can you build custom tools for our organization?

Yes, and it’s one of my favorite things to build. When an off-the-shelf product forces your team into awkward workarounds, I design a focused tool, workflow or AI-assisted system around the way the work actually needs to happen. Find out more ↗

Will our staff be able to run it after launch?

That’s the point. I design around the people who keep things current, from ministry page templates leaders can update to clear publishing workflows. Every project ends with training and a simple handoff.

Who will we actually work with?

Me. You work directly with me from strategy through delivery. Depending on the project, I build hands-on, lead specialist developers or use AI-assisted tools, and I stay responsible for the direction, quality and handoff.

What does a project cost, and how do we start?

It depends on scope: a focused refresh is a smaller project than a full rebuild with a migration and integrations. Start with a free fit conversation. If the scope isn’t clear yet, a $2,500 Project Roadmap gives you a plan with budget and timing ranges, credited toward the build if Helmsman builds it. About the Project Roadmap ↗
